How to Care for Your Resin Art

Your essential guide to caring for your resin art

You’ve invested in a piece of ocean resin art. Want to make sure that it remains beautiful for years? The good news, it’s straightforward. Follow these simple steps, and your resin painting will remain a just as beautiful as they day you bought it.

Dusting – The Easiest Thing You’ll Ever Do

Dust happens. But don’t let it dull your resin artwork. Grab a microfibre cloth, give it a gentle wipe, and you’re done. No fancy sprays, no elbow grease—just a quick dusting to keep it gleaming. I would also recommend that you can use a glass cleaner and clean it as you would a pane of glass. In my art pieces I use real sand and carved rocks from caly, just remember to keep away from these areas as you dont want to damage them.

Sunlight – Friend or Foe?

A little natural light brings out the depth and intricate details of your resin painting. But direct, harsh sunlight? That’s a chance I wouldn’t be willing to take in my view. Over time, it can cause yellowing.

To help prevent this, I use high-quality epoxy resin (Art Resin) and take extra precautionary steps, like adding purple tints to the resin to counteract any yellowing affects. That said, I still wouldn’t recommend prolonged sun exposure.

For the best longevity, place your artwork in a well-lit spot but out of direct sunlight. Avoid areas like sunrooms, conservatories, or spaces surrounded by glass on all sides, as they can get too hot and expose the piece to too much UV light. If you're framing it, consider using UV-protective glass to add an extra layer of defence.

Cleaning – A Little Goes a Long Way

Spotted a smudge? A damp microfibre cloth with a touch of mild glass cleaning spray will do the trick. I would recommend to stay away from harsh chemicals—your ocean-inspired art doesn’t need them, and neither do you.

Care for resin art

Handling – Keep It Clean, Keep It Safe

Always handle your resin artwork with clean, dry hands. No greasy fingerprints, no scratches, no problems. Moving it? Treat resin as you do glass, its not scratch resistant and wrap it in a soft cloth, followed by bubble wrap and store it in a cool, dry place—so not stack items on top of it and keep it away from anything heavy that might scratch or mark it.

Scratches – Prevention is Key

Want to keep that glossy, glass-like finish? Here’s the secret: don’t put hard or rough objects near your coastal art. If it’s on a table, use felt pads. Use bubble wrap if you are transporting it and if you’re hanging it, make sure it’s secure. Simple habits prevent unwanted damage.

Polishing – A Quick Refresh

If your resin painting starts losing a bit of its shine, there’s an easy fix. A plastic polish designed for acrylic surfaces will bring back that showroom glow. I personally use (Novus plastic spray, which I would recommend) simply buff gently in circular motions, and watch it shine again.
